Enjoy Preferred Seats on flights to North America (excluding New York) and all Neighbor Island routes. Preferred Seats will not be available on Hawaiian Airlines codeshare flights or on 'Ohana by Hawaiian.

How Much Will I Have to Pay?


Preferred Seats fees vary based upon your flight route. Please review the charts below to see which one way fee applies to your travel itinerary.

NOTE: Advance sales are only available on our B717 aircrafts which are operated on our Neighbor Island flights. North America routes including Oakland, Phoenix, Sacramento and San Jose are operated using the B767 aircrafts and are available for purchase at the time of check-in only.

Selecting Your Preferred Seat


Where do you want to sit? Below we've listed all seats (by aircraft) that are reserved for our Preferred Seat guests. Now the hard part, would you prefer an aisle or window seat?

Neighbor Island (Boeing 717)

  • Row 4 A, B:  available for purchase during check-in
  • Row 4 D, E, F: available for purchase in advance and during check-in  
  • Row 5 A, B: available for purchase in advance* and during check-in**
  • Row 17: (exit row & seats do not recline): available for purchase in advance and during check-in
  • Row 18: (exit row & seats do not recline): available for purchase in advance* and during check-in**

North America (Boeing 767)

There are 7 Preferred Seats available for purchase on North American routes operated with our 767 aircraft. Seats may be purchased during check-in; seat locations vary by aircraft.


Buying Your Preferred Seats


For some Hawaiian Airlines flights, the web is all you need—you can buy your Preferred Seats in advance online. On other flights, Preferred Seats will be available when you check in at the airport. Our codeshare partners have their own policies, so we’re not able to offer Preferred Seats on codeshare flights.

When to Buy


You can buy Preferred Seats in advance on our Airbus A330 North America and International flights, and on our Boeing 717 Neighbor Island flights. For North America Boeing 767 flights, Preferred Seats are only available at the time of check-in via the web, kiosk or airport gate agent.

Advance sale of Preferred Seats is available on 717 routes:

Neighbor Island Routes

  • Hilo (ITO)
  • Kahului (OGG)
  • Kona (KOA)
  • Lihue (LIH)

Note:  Preferred Seats are not available on codeshare flights.

Preferred Seats will be available at the time of check-in via the web, kiosk or airport agent for these 767 routes:

North America Routes

  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Oakland (OAK)
  • Phoenix (PHX)
  • Sacramento (SMF)
  • San Jose (SJC)

Note: Preferred Seats are not available on codeshare flights and international routes operated by 767 aircraft.

Terms & Conditions


  • Preferred Seat/Extra Comfort seats are Non-Transferable, Non-Refundable and are only valid for the flight purchased. Specific seat assignments are not guaranteed.
  • Any voluntarily changes to your reservation or seat are not eligible for a refund.
    However, if a Preferred Seat/Extra Comfort Seat is available on the new flight at the same time a flight change is made, you may secure the Preferred Seat/Extra Comfort Seat using the original form of payment (i.e. if available at same cost, Itinerary Change will try to accommodate on the new date/flight, based on availability).
    * If Hawaiian Airlines initiates a change and we are not able to accommodate you with another Preferred Seat/Extra Comfort Seat, we will submit a refund request on your behalf
  • If in BULKHEAD: Customers seated in the bulkhead row may be reassigned to accommodate passengers with disabilities.
  • If in EXIT ROW
    • Customers seated in an exit row must meet the FAA requirements including:
    • Must be willing and able to assist; Must be 15 years of age or older
    • Adults must not be travelling with children under the age of 15
    • Must speak English and be able to comprehend the instructions to operate the emergency exit.
    • Must not be traveling with or require the use of a Respiratory Assistive device and must not be traveling with an individual that requires your assistance for their Respiratory Assistive device
    • Must not be traveling with any pets in the cabin, Service Animals, Emotional/Comfort/Psychiatric Support Animals and
      must not require the assistance of such Service Animals and Emotional/Comfort/Psychiatric Support Animals.

FAQ's


Can I use miles to purchase a Preferred Seat Upgrade?

Miles may not be used to upgrade a Preferred Seat.

Can I upgrade a Coach award ticket that I've used miles, to purchase a Preferred Seat?

Yes. Coach tickets that were purchased using HawaiianMiles can be upgraded to a Preferred Seat, however HawaiianMiles may not be used to purchase the Preferred Seat.

Can I use my eCertificate to purchase a Preferred Seat?

An eCertificate may only be used for the purchase of a ticket and will not be applied to the cost of Preferred Seat.

Can I use my Gift Certificate and/or Gift Card to purchase a Preferred Seat?

Gift certificates and/or gift cards cannot be used when purchasing Preferred Seat. For more information about gift certificates and gift cards, click here.

If I purchased a Preferred Seat and need to make a change to my itinerary, can I get a refund for the Preferred Seat?

Customers who voluntarily cancel, or change their flight, itinerary, or cabin, will not be eligible for a refund. However, if a Preferred Seat is available on the new flight at the same time a flight change is made, the customer may secure the Preferred Seat using the original payment.

Can I purchase a Preferred Seat in advance?

Advance sale of Preferred Seats are available online at HawaiianAirlines.com. Advance sales are only available on our B717 aircrafts which are operated on our Neighbor Island flights. North America routes include Phoenix, Sacramento, Oakland, and San Jose are operated on our B767 aircrafts and are available for purchase at the time of check-in only.

I am flying to San Jose, why can't I purchase a Preferred Seat in advance?

Currently your San Jose flight is operated on a 767 aircraft and not eligible for the advance sale. Preferred Seat sales will be available at check-in either online or at the airport kiosk within 24 hours of departure.

Will Elite members be offered a discount for Preferred Seats purchased in advance?

Discounts will be offered to our elite members but you may still list for a seat on the day of departure.Click here to learn more about your Pualani Elite benefits.

I just booked a flight from Lihue to JFK and purchased Preferred Seats for my Neighbor Island and North America flights, I now need to cancel my flights; can I get a refund for all Preferred Seat segments?

If your travel is at least 7 days out and you are canceling your flight and Preferred Seats within 24 hours of booking, please let us know you purchased the Preferred Seats and would like it to be included in the refund. Cancellations outside of 24 hours within booking or travel that is booked less than 7 days out will not be eligible for the refund.

I booked a flight from Hilo to Kahului and purchased a Neighbor Island Preferred Seat. I had to change my plans and am now flying to Lihue instead. Can I transfer my Neighbor Island Preferred Seat to my new flight to Lihue and if so, is there an additional charge for the change?

You will be charged for the ticket change and the fare difference. If the Preferred Seat is available on the new flight you may select the Preferred Seat at no additional charge. If the Preferred Seat is not available you will forfeit the fee collected for the seat. Unused payment may not be used for future flights.
